 This state often looks transparent or flattened. The plasticity of a control 
gets reduced because it's in a background window.

 These often just lose the blue tint of a control, but otherwise look active 
and solid and 3D. But e.g. popup buttons and scrollers are now monochrome, so 
you don't see this as often anymore.
