Working closely with both the Director of the Genesis Lab and the Drescher Graduate Campus Librarian, the Creative Maker Space Technologist works in the Payson Library Genesis Lab Maker Space and the new Drescher Library iLab on Pepperdine University’s Malibu campus. The Creative Maker Space Technologist is responsible for maintaining both maker spaces and promoting the use of their emerging technologies to faculty, students, and staff, thus supporting teaching, learning, and research. Duties Orient Genesis Lab and Drescher iLab users to available technologies and assist faculty and students with specific projects. These technologies include, but are not limited to, 3-D scanning and printing, CAD (AutoDesk, Fusion360, etc.), virtual reality and augmented reality (Unity, C++, etc.), and data analytics/modeling. Maintain technology (hardware and software) in the Genesis Lab and Drescher iLab to support lab activities. Recommend upgrades and new purchases to the Director of the Genesis Lab as appropriate. Collaborate with the Director of the Genesis Lab, Director of Library Programming and Public Affairs, and campus partners to plan, promote, and host Genesis Lab and Drescher iLab events. In coordination with the Director of the Genesis Lab, recruit, hire, train, and supervise Genesis Lab and Drescher iLab student employees, including creating and maintaining student work schedules, keeping an accurate account of student worker hours, and evaluating performance. Serve as the liaison to Campus Recreation's Esports program. Perform other duties as assigned. Uphold University mission through work performed. Skills and Qualifications Required: A bachelor’s degree in Business, STEAM (science, technology, engineering, art, and mathematics), or related field or comparable experience An appreciation for and understanding of the University’s Christian mission, and a desire to contribute to that mission; interest in emerging technologies and their application in an academic setting; ability to teach hardware and software programs to a wide variety of users; willingness to experiment with new technologies; reliable and detail-oriented; efficient and organized, with the ability to prioritize effectively in a busy environment; strong interpersonal relationship skills; the ability to work collaboratively within the library and with external partners; committed to serving a population of users with differing language, cultural, ethnic, religious, and socioeconomic backgrounds; excellent organizational, oral, and written communication skills; ability to lift and carry at least 20 lbs; knowledge of 3-D printing, VR and AR, data visualization, and 3D imaging; ability and initiative to independently learn new hardware and software; basic understanding of image editing software (Canva preferred) for marketing events; proficient with Microsoft Office Suite and Google Workspace programs; Zoom. Preferred: Hands-on experience with a maker space; experience working with students of all backgrounds Experience with or willingness to learn CAD, Python, Unity, and/or C++.
