The University of Nevada, Reno seeks a forward-thinking, collaborative 
professional for the position of Associate Dean, Collections & Discovery 
(AD of C&D). Reporting to the Dean of Libraries, the AD of C&D will be 
one of two associate deans, is a member of the Libraries’ management team, and 
plays a significant leadership role in helping the Libraries. The AD of C&D 
is responsible for the planning, implementation, and promotion of an evolving 
range of initiatives that will help shape future directions for the Libraries 
and University.  

Units reporting to the Associate Dean include Electronic Resources & 
Acquisitions; Metadata & Cataloging; Discovery Services, and Digital 
Services (web, systems, and preservation services). The successful candidate 
will demonstrate support for diversity, equity and inclusiveness as well as 
participate in maintaining a respectful, positive work environment. The 
Libraries values diversity of thought and expression, a willingness to 
experiment with new methods and technologies, an openness to change, and a 
collaborative approach to meeting user needs.  

Major responsibilities 

Provide leadership for units responsible for digital services (web, systems, 
and preservation services) and resource acquisition and access (print resource, 
electronic resources and licensing, serials, discovery services, and metadata 
and cataloging). The library uses the Alma library services platform, the Primo 
VE discovery service, and the Islandora digital asset management system.  
Provide oversight of a multimillion-dollar materials budget ($6M), including 
state funds, student fees, gift/donor funds and endowment funds; oversee 
allocations and expenditures; and ensure resource allocation decisions are 
aligned with strategic directions. 
Collaborate with the Collections Librarian and acquisitions staff to produce 
analyses, data visualizations, and reports, including regular budget updates 
with respect to fiscal-year targets, trends, and library impact. 
Provide leadership for the selection, licensing, management, and preservation 
of print and electronic resources.  
Provide leadership and participate in consortial and cooperative activities 
that relate to collections and scholarly communication.  
Monitor and share knowledge of trends and best practices in library collection 
development, discovery, descriptive standards, and aspects of scholarly 
communication connected to the use of information resources (open access, open 
educational resources, fair use, etc.).   
Represent the Libraries within the university and on committees and forums at 
the state and at the national level. 
Guide the tenure and promotion process for faculty within the department.
