I’m also very interested (not being on bugs@) if anyone ever found a rationale for the bug by which users can use a sequence of O (logn) (n in number of servers + the size of the alphabet over various servers names are allowed + the maximal server name currently on undernet) /whois queries to determine the name of every server.
