This issue was reviewed as part of the JIRA-migrated backlog triage (HUDI-9644). **Findings: still open.** This is a design revisit rather than a defect, so the deliverable is a decision recorded on the ticket. Note #17243 (HUDI-7251, AppendHandle for partial updates) predates RFC-97 and is waiting on the same design settling, so the two are coupled. **One thing worth flagging to avoid a mis-triage:** the PR linked in the description, #13498 (`[HUDI-8401][RFC-97] Add partial update support with merge mode`), **is merged** (2025-07-15). But that is the change this ticket was filed as a follow-up to - not a fix for it. Nothing indicates the follow-up work itself has landed.
