Hi @brockn , @edwardcapriolo , thanks for submitting a PR! I have added a few questions. Apart from those points, could you please also make sure to follow the usual commit message format? I am planning to bump Spark support to the latest 3.5 version (3.5.6) soon under the JIRA ticket [LIVY-1010](https://issues.apache.org/jira/browse/LIVY-1010), that is why I think the Spark version number change could be removed from the change.
