> Guys, everyone on this planet knows that "thumb up" means "i like the idea" / "i agree" while "thumb down" means "i don't like the idea" / "i do not agree". I guess, although some contributors have said that it's considered rude. > I would like to express my concern that preventing expression of disagreement is not what open discourse is about. > > Thus my humble NO here. > > But we may talk about vulgar offensive language, invectives, name calling, etc, that would make more sense. Anything that is outside of the meritorical process. > > Also we should vote any Contributing Guide changes on the mailing list :-P That's fair, I had interpreted the mailing list discussion as a unanimous opinion but we did not conduct a vote. You're right, we should do that before modifying the doc! Maybe it's a better approach just to indicate that conversation should be respectful, and reviewers/contributors should seek to clarify whether or not a comment/emoji should be was intended to be rude before making conclusions. I'm going to close this PR in case until some consensus is reached on the mailing list discussion! -- This is an automated message from the Apache Git Service.
