The exact reset and stale-worker-generation scope is already owned by #12494, which closes this issue. Its current review has a non-CI blocker: a terminal notification from the reset generation can still be applied by the master to a replacement at the same `TaskGroupLocation` unless the generations are distinguished or that interleaving is otherwise made impossible. Please do not start a parallel implementation or assign this umbrella issue to a second owner. Your proposed controlled reproduction would be valuable as evidence for #12494: exercise eviction, merge/reset, replacement deployment, and delivery of the old generation's terminal notification after the replacement is live. Coordinate the result with the PR author and attach the captured execution identities, task locations, and checkpoint progression there.
