Siyao Meng resolved HADOOP-11072.
---------------------------------
Resolution: Duplicate
[Jira cleanup 2026-10-27] The ArrayIndexOutOfBoundsException path described
here no longer exists on trunk. HADOOP-19960 builds the ip6.arpa name for IPv6
addresses in {{DNS.getReverseDnsName}}, and HADOOP-20020 makes
{{DNS.reverseDns}} throw {{NameNotFoundException("No PTR record for ...")}}
when the answer has no PTR record. Closing as a duplicate of HADOOP-19960.
If you think this is closed by mistake. Pls feel free to reopen. Thanks.
> better Logging in DNS.java

> Priority: Minor

> The DNS.java class should be more informative, and possibly fail early when
> reverse DNS is broken. Right now it is vulnerable to a cryptic ArrayIndex
> exception.
> {noformat}
> parts = hostIp.getHostAddress(....)
> String reverseIp = parts[3] + parts[2] ...
> {noformat}
> During this patch I think we can also improve a couple other minor logging
> statements in the net package.
