i think that i remember something about adding licenses to every artifact that they can be attached to.

do we need to think about modifying the documentation build scripts and source (and so on) so that they are licensed under AL2?

As you know, the board of directors of the ASF has approved a new license, v2.0, and has mandated that the entire ASF codebase be moved to it. Specifically, they require that any code released after March 1, 2004 be placed under this new license.

However, given that snapshots of commons components are created and placed in repositories, and people use sandbox components, which by definition don't have an actual release, it behooves us to not wait until something get released to move to the new license.

This process, applied to the Geronimo and it's 26 modules, took 2 minutes and 33 seconds, according to the kind soul who did the change. By my math, it should take *5* minutes to do the entire commons.

So please - lets be proactive and Just Do It. Decide among the committers for a component who will do it, or maybe have a group volunteer to do all for efficiency. Lets just get this done.

P.S. The Board isn't kidding about the CLAs either - so if you haven't gotten them in, please do so. If you are having problems or questions, please contact [EMAIL PROTECTED] If they are not in you will a) have your commit privs suspended and b) it's possible code will be yanked from CVS, although actions following a) are yet to be decided by the board.
