I am afraid I know nothing about AIX either. Is something like whitelisting the senders IP and option?

There used to be versions of AIX (5.3 etc) that were shipping with Sendmail 8.11 with authentication not enable due to SSL licensing issues. If that applies in your case, you would have to install a "public" version of SendMail - or some alternative, like Postfix.
