Thanks Andy. Turns out the software vendor needing to send out notifications 
has admitted that they tested this several years ago and it did not work so it 
can not work. I sent them a bunch of links of who to set it up and now they 
have asked for an email account to work with to test.

But, usually SMTP AUTH is used because the IP address range is not static...

I am afraid I know nothing about AIX either.  Is something like whitelisting 
the senders IP and option?
