The North Platte Bulletin, North Platt, Nebraska, USA 2/8/2006 Registration open for gardening program for teens North Platte Bulletin Staff Applicants are wanted for the Roots Project, a gardening training program for young adults who are 13-18 years old. The 2006 program year begins Feb. 17.
Community Minded Just Like You Participants will attend 10 workshops beginning mid-February and ending in June. The group will plan, plant, and tend a vegetable garden at the Lincoln County Historical Museum, as well as a perennial flowerbed there. The Roots Project is in its third year. Local master gardener volunteers teach pre-season workshops February-June about gardening and plant basics. Scheduled workshops include Companion Planting, Basic Garden Tools, Soils, Garden Maintenance basics, and Composting. Workshops are an hour long and are held one to two times per month. After completing the workshops, participants will be able to put their new skills to the test in the vegetable and perennial flower gardens at the museum. Supervision and transportation assistance are available for summer work hours.
