Horticulturist II - Outdoor- Assists with maintaining and conducting programming at urban vegetable farm jobs training program. Performs a wide range of duties, including planting, watering, mulching, weeding, pruning, composting, irrigation, hoop house construction and maintenance, and hoop house seedling production/propagation. Assists with the installation of community gardening projects within St. Louis City. Additional duties include assisting with building and programming of multigenerational gardens at YMCAs, and assisting with the maintenance of Bell Garden and carriage house demonstration gardens. Off-season work includes production planning, assisting with neighborhood greening projects, tree pruning, and tool maintenance. Qualifications include: -Associate's degree in Horticulture or closely related field -Three years horticulture related work experience -Excellent knowledge of plant materials, vegetable and herb production, production planning, irrigation equipment, landscape maintenance, and equipment such as hand tools, power equipment (including chain saws) and construction equipment required -Knowledge of horticultural therapy or public therapeutic programming and cut flower production, herbaceous perennials, including flowering shrubs, highly desirable -Ability to lift 60 lbs. and over or handling of medium to heavy weight tools and equipment -Must possess competent computer and recordkeeping skills, and the ability to teach and lead work groups of all ages and skill levels -Experience with teaching children and non-profit or volunteer experience a plus Compensation: 26-28K annually, based on experience.
