Hi All:

We are working hard this winter to get water for the 2009 growing season at a
community garden that has struggled without it for over 20 years.

We have gotten municipal permission to install an irrigation well as this would
be cheaper than connecting to city water at this location. We are debating over
whether to install an electric well pump (partially dependent on how much money
we can raise -- at a cost at least $6,000) or a hand/ human powered pump (cost
of around $3,500).

The well contractors tell us the well would need to be 170' and the static
water would be at ~50'.

Are there others who have experience with hand powered pumps at this depth? Are
there folks out there that have any creative human powered pumps such as merry
go rounds or ones like the "money maker"
http://kickstart.org/tech/technologies/micro-irrigation.html pump that is
available in Africa?

Thanks for your input,

Anne Rauscher
