Oh for God's sake. People are dying from cheap tainted food. This is what government should be doing. I don't want my kids to die from low-rent, bottom feeding peanut butter.
Of all the battles we NEED to be fighting, this one is subterranean.

Re HR875. If you read this bill one thing becomes very interesting to me. It is leading to another whole government administration. This means MORE GOVERNMENT, which inevitably means more government restrictions and regulations, all costing the taxpayer more money to administer this. If the gov. really wanted to protect us from incoming food from out of country, they could simply enforce existing codes and inspections. Instead, from Obama's recent speach, his real intention is to control all food production directly in this country. If you know your history, this was exactly what occurred when the Nazis invaded Poland. They clamped down on all food production. When you control food, you control people. Here is a link we should all check out because it exactly discusses the role in people's lives of government. It is a very level headed look, not fanatical. Please watch it. http://www.wimp.com/thegovernment/

I was asked about food related controversial bills that are being worked on
by the Federal Govt.

Well, there have been several of them. First NAIS and then the two food
protection bills. Around all of them has been plenty of needless
controversy, when folks present their fears, assumptions and speculation as facts. Here are a couple of links to reliable sources. Food And Water Watch
has info on both NAIS and HR875. Gristmill article talks about needless
hype. You will also find links to the actual proposed laws.

IMHO There is a need to protect the public from big business scams and
unconscionable business practices, especially when the scams and "profit
before people" mentality are hurting us. HR875 intends also protect us from
tainted import products.

According to Food And Water Watch the HR875 could be improved and they are
asking folks to talk their representatives about that. However, the battles
to improve these pieces of legislation need to be based on facts and not
chicken little "sky is falling" hype, which only makes us food activists
look bad.

What we can do to protect ourselves is to be mindful of what we buy and feed ourselves and our families. We can also grow our own, and to buy local food
whenever possible.

But do not necessarily trust me, read, learn and form your own opinion.
