Mike, I understand your viewpoint.
But if we don't learn from history, we are doomed to repeat it. You think
this is just fear. It is LESSONS and knowledge. You want to protect your
family and that is admirable. But you need to see trends and know who is
behind this. It is about fundamental freedoms of property rights, personal
rights to action and communication.
If you had lived around the era of WWII, and seen the actual effects of this
kind of evil, you wouldn't be protesting so much, you would understand that
it CAN happen here and it IS happening here.
It is about gardening directly and to the heart of it.
If someone came into your land with the force of law behind them and told
you that you were a felon for having a garden, or for giving your kids home
grown food that wasn't genetically modified, right now you would say that is
not possible. But those things are in the bills that are coming up to
congress right now. Behind it is Monsanto, Cargill and other huge
multinational corporations that see home gardening as a threat to their
profit growth and to be wiped out. It has already been happening in India
and areas of South America. We think because we live in America that it
can't happen here. But it IS happening.
Right now.
So, confront that there is evil in the world, it is profit motivated, and
you are not immune from it because you live in this country. We are daily
loosing liberties guaranteed in the Constitution. The PR line makes it all
seem so reasonable, but that's because you aren't looking at who is behind
it or why, and you don't see the trends. The way you cook a turtle is you
put it in cold water and gradually turn up the heat. By the time it is
boiling, the turtle was asleep and died. Each little bit in these laws which
add more government, take away individual choice, make it illegal or too
heavily fined for the ordinary person to fight, and you have taken
everyone's liberties away to that degree. This HR875 adds a whole new level
of government regulation to handle something that should already be handled
with existing laws and regulations, and inspection. The point is to add
government, not protect your kids from peanut butter that is tainted. If
they were doing their job, this would not be happening. So, insist they do
their jobs and nix the billions of dollars needed to set up a whole other
department of the gov.
My 2 cents.

sigh. I honestly believe this is paranoia pure and simple. Too much time
is being wasted on this. we should be gardening and promoting gardening.
