I second Dorene! All kinds of faith-based gardens sprouting up now in the
Carolinas, with churches converting parts of their big lawns into food gardens.
Many here appear to be "cooperative" projects rather than "family
plot/allotment" type gardens, often with the idea of donating the food to food
banks. Really interesting, and often with a pretty different take on community
gardening management.

On the worm poop v. cow poop, I agree worm is better for seedlings. Even with
two year old cow, you might have some salt problems, depending on the cattle's
living arrangements, where the poop was composted, and how much rain you get.
How carefully was it composted, too?

Cucurbits LOVE poop, so I agree that's a good use for it, right in the garden
beds or hills.

Fred and others are right about on-line/web-based stuff taking a lot of time,
by interns or somebody. Time, work and continuity. Most things on-line require
constant, on-going attention - it's worse than weeding.

>snip<Also, faith-based community gardens are just EXPLODING! I'm getting calls
from suburban and rural churches in PA about how to set up a community
garden on church land for food security purposes. The congregations are
just scared to death in this economy and want to be able to help their
communities, especially since the local food banks are completely
overwhelmed. So, while community gardens may have been more urban in the
past, the faith community is really taking up the cause in suburban and
rural areas.
