Hello Community Garden Community! First of all, I just wanted to say that I am recent subscriber to this forum and so happy to have found it! What a wonderful resource.
I am a landscape architecture graduate student at the University of Oregon and am currently developing my master's project, which is focused on community gardens! I am looking at ways to create a more permanent roll of community gardens in the urban green infrastructure -- such as the way parks or green-roofs are viewed as permanent and prescribed structures. There is a great deal of existing information on how community gardens are socially, economically, and ecologically beneficial to cities, neighborhoods, and the residents in them, but still some of these gardens are struggling to keep their foothold. I would like to continue research on why some community gardens are perceived as permanent and some at temporary. I hope to learn transferable messages, patterns, or designs that can create security to more of these gardens. I am hoping to find a summer internship that relates to community gardens -- designing, community outreach or education, planning, policy, maintenance, weeding (I like weeding), or answering phones. I would just like to get involved with the community garden community. If any of you have or know of opportunities such as this, I would greatly appreciate hearing about it! I have my resume (and portfolio!) on hand if anyone would like to see any either of them. Thank you for your time. Sincerely, Patricia Stevenson [email protected] _______________________________________________ The American Community Gardening Association listserve is only one of ACGA's services to community gardeners.
