Thank you everyone for your suggestions! I think we're going to try a rat zapper. While killing any animal is unpleasant, these rats are doing a lot of damage to our gardener's crops, especially the cantaloupes, watermelons and tomatoes. Many of these are first-time gardeners and I feel terrible they are losing their crops after working so hard. Thanks again!
