Hi Abby, In response to your question:
1) One of our gardens, the Penfield Park Garden is a collection of fifty 100 square foot (25 x 4) allotment plots that are hand watered by the plot holders. We also occasionally dump a few sprinkle cans or 5-gal buckets on the community sunflowers and a wild-flower patch. 2) We pay for the water and the sewage fee associated to the amount of water we use (though we don't even have a sewage hookup). 3) So far this growing season, we have used 17,000 gallons of water (with a very dry July and a very wet early season). 4) typically, approx 1/3 to 1/2 of our annual operating budget ($25 plot fee multiplied by the number of plots) goes toward the cost of water. Hope this helps.
