Hi Abby, a lot will depend on the amount of organic matter in the gardens too, clay or sand. If you used straw, mulch to lessen water loss. I have very high organic matter but somehow amended my garden that it is considered sandy so water travels through it a bit too fast for me. It started out as clay prairie soil. I used drip last year but felt it wasn't getting the plants like I wanted. I am hand watering but feels it's not a nice slow deep watering. It's year 5 for my raised beds. The community garden I worked on has many leaks and has not addressed them well and now they are very behind on water bill. I am learning about gravity drip irrigation. I like the idea of filling a 5 gallon bucket and being able to walk away. No timer, no waiting for a person hand watering. It's used in Africa with some missionaries and here as well. I saw some good directions at Irrigation Direct I think. They did experiments to help you understand the components.
