An open invitation to anyone in North/Central Ohio:

Raising Richland Summit Sprouting Fresh Ideas for the Garden

The 3rd annual Raising Richland Community Garden Summit will be held Thursday,
March 14 from 5:30 until 9 p.m. at the Longview Center, 1495 W. Longview Avenue
in Mansfield.

This FREE event includes three great speakers, hands-on activities for kids,
fresh produce tasting, loads of garden resources, displays from local community
gardens, and garden-themed door prizes.

Jonathan Hull, co-founder of Cleveland's Green Triangle, will kick off the
evening with “Beyond the Veggie Patch: Alternative Strategies for Community
Gardens.” Jonathan will touch on several projects from the Cleveland area that
put vacant properties to productive uses, including: Outdoor Kitchens, Native
Plant Gardens, Craft Gardens, Edible Forest Gardens, and Soil Building Gardens.

Jim Chatfield, Horticulture Specialist at OSU Extension, will be back again
this year to teach us how to solve “Common Problems in the Vegetable Garden,”
and he will answer garden questions at the “Ask An Expert” table.

Doug Schuster, Kingwood Center’s new Greenhouse Manager, will teach us about
vertical gardening and other “Space Saving Garden Solutions.”

Raising Richland is organized by the North End Community Improvement
Collaborative (NECIC), Richland County Master Gardener Volunteers, OSU
Extension, the Creating Healthy Communities project of the
Mansfield/Ontario/Richland County Health Department, the City of Shelby, and
local community gardeners, with support from Meijers.
