MORE ABOUT THE EVENT:

Hungry to share fresh ideas and hands-on garden experiences, community
gardeners from across the state are gathering for their annual meeting on
Saturday, November 9, 2013 at Durham Tech in Durham, NC.

The event – Nurturing Sustainable Community Gardens: How To Get Rooted In Your
Community – is open to the public. Organizers extend a special invitation to
community, school and faith-based gardeners and garden organizers.

Program highlights include presentations on such perennial community garden
challenges as finding funding and resources, composting, and successful garden
organizing. Dr. Lucy Bradley of NCSU will share a big picture overview of
community gardening throughout North Carolina. A guided tour of Durham's
beautiful Briggs Avenue Community Garden will cap the day's activities.

An innovation this year is a Pecha Kucha showcase, presenting the latest and
coolest community gardening ideas in a fast-paced, creative and entertaining
format, with assistance from The Abundance Foundation. There will also be a
raffle with a community garden theme, and ample opportunities for informal
networking.

The garden gathering is sponsored by North Carolina Community Garden Partners
(NCCGP), with support from Nourishing North Carolina.

NCCGP is North Carolina's statewide community garden support organization,
based in Greensboro. This nonprofit group is made up of organizations and
individuals across the state interested in community gardening and expanding
community garden opportunities. NCCGP welcomes new members, and will hold their
annual open meeting during lunch at the event.

Nourishing North Carolina (NNC) is an initiative of Blue Cross Blue Shield and
the North Carolina Recreation and Park Association. NNC's goal is to help
establish a community garden in every North Carolina county by the end of 2013.
NNC is also providing scholarships to the event, covering transportation and
registration. Two scholarships are available for each NNC-sponsored community
garden site. Interested gardeners (at NNC gardens only) may send an inquiry
email to [email protected] for more information.
