Subject: Re: Classic Software reinstall ques. Hi y'all. Well, I got my Classic system software installed (I had a school Classic that had a lockout on the Control Panels, etc.). Couldn't seem to get the Rom Sys 6 to boot up, but after some fanagaling, I finally got a clean install of 7.1 on there --does pretty good with the full 4mg of Ram. New problem: I got a Color Classic that had system 7.1 on it. I had installed a bunch of software from another Mac, no problem, but then I attempted to install an old Thundercache card on the stock mobo. All was ok, until I tried to install the control panel from the diskette. It showed all the controls dimmed, so I rebooted the CC, and got an immediate Sad Mac. Nothing would work at all, so I tried to reinstall the system software. I couldn't for some reason because it would give me a message saying the "software was not applicable for this machine, use the newer version" or something to that effect. At this point, I did a Cmd-Power, then typed "g" at the prompt to get it to load the Install disk and install. Well, it did, but now I get that message everytime and I have to do the same thing just to get the system to boot. It will boot from the HD, but all the control panels are document icons. I rebuilt the desktop and got the control panels functioning, but the hd gives that same message and won't boot up unless I do the cmd-power function. Also, in the About this Mac panel, it does not show "Color Classic" as the computer. I did notice that there was no choice for this when installing the system (I used the "Mac Family of Software" option), but these were the disks that were given to me with the computer. How can I fix this so everything boots up properly and actually works right? I don't have any system disks other than these, and I am having the *damnedest* time getting Stuffit Expander for Windows so I can get Mac files from my PC to the Mac and actually use them. Yes, I have not yet networked my Mac to the Pc. The Stuffit Expander for Windows and the Mac is a whole seperate issue that I would appreciate info on, since I can't seem to get the Windows version, and the Mac version didn't want to work or install when I File-Exchanged it to the Mac. <sigh...> I guess all of this is moot since I will soon be doing a "mystic" upgrade, bigger hd, and using Sys 7.6 from a CD, but that won't happen till I get my SCSI cable for the CDROM and the memory chip for the 575 mobo, as well as doing the VGA mod, etc.. In the meantime though, this install thing is driving me batty since I hate not being able to fix it. Any comments would be appreciated.
