Actually there is a rational explanation, 68k Macs must have the first
internal drive terminated to provide termination to that end of the
chain, hence why disk-less Macs with SCSI have term. blocks plugged into
the LoBo. Take out the hard disk, and the termination, and it all goes
to pot.
