Note - he says "when I pulled out the
hard drive and booted it, it wouldn't boot from the floppy or the CD" 
then "after replacing the hard drive and booting again, it booted fine". 
Hence my explanation. I don't get why the floppy didn't work at all but 
hey... that's Macs!
