All SCSI hard disks support software controlled spin-up and spin-down
AFAIK. Some drives require a 'Spin Up' command on start-up (always
issued on power-up on a Mac) to start going. Sleeper takes advantage of
this software control to stop and start the drives, it is the only thing
that actually works in sleeper on an SE/30 because of the manual
brightness wheel :)
