Yo compacters everywhere,

Mark Benson <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> tells us:

>I don't think LC 575s suck *as such* they just don't have the style of the CC,
>it's a case of attaching the best case to the best guts possible.

Huh? How do you define "best case"? Does form follow function in your idea of best
design? Please keep in mind I possess more working Color Classics than most on this
forum will ever see. I've built my Mystic and Power Mystic (thanks Stuart). I even
have a CC/575 in use as a family web server. While I too find the Color Classic
fascinating, I judge it about as "cute" as an unhealthy fat baby and it rivals the 630
and 8500 Macs for being awkward to work on. But, then, there is no accounting for my
tastes either.

And Mark adds:

>So what's your point, you are having a go at yourself almost!??

While we all can rationalize our messing about with our compact Macs, I doubt that
many of us do it for really rational purposes. My point is that we are often complicit
in trashing perfectly good Macs to produce a less capable (cute, darling, fascinating,
whatever) Mac. While I couldn't give a good rat's ass about trashing 5xxx Macs, I do
see many perfectly good 575 Macs being trashed to produce a Mystic and this does
bother me. "...having a go at yourself..."? Yeah; like slavery, sometimes good people
who do these things have to think about it before we see a need to put a stop to it.
Self critisism can be useful for understanding the lemmings we choose to hang around
with. You might want to try it sometime.

Bill
