Sigh!
Thanks for the info, Brian. I'm not too concerned about voiding the
warranty on a 9-year-old monitor bought as part of a $30 bundle at a yard
sale. Funny thing is, I did everything but step 1 as a common-sense
diagnostic before I opened the case. I would consider a horizontal image
stretch from edge to edge of the screen to be a bit more than "other minor
geometry problems." ;-)
It bothers me that even this low-cost monitor was considered a whole-unit
exchange module, unless it was being exchanged for shipment back to a
repair and refurbishment depot.
Oh, well, at least it's good for learning about display innards.
