Congratulations on your progress.
I use amplified (powered) speakers on my LC 475 and use them on my other
Macs when I want to use external speakers. I believe the Mac's sound output
port is comparable to a Wintel "line out" port, not "speaker out" port.
Sound is tolerable, if not symphonic quality.
