Snigger ye not, gentlemen! Further investigation reveals that many of the mice that came with the pallet 'o Plusses that I bought last month don't work. I can't complain as it was a 'trade' sale with no promises, but I do need to get them working again to be able to sell complete Plus systems, and keep the compacts in question from the big landfill site in the sky.
At first I thought it was a matter of weight, with some being thrice the weight of others. Now I realise it's a matter of size, with large white heavy ones working fine, but anything smaller, whatever the weight or firmness of the compound from which they're made being useless. The smaller balls fit the later 'tear drop' mice that came with ADB connectors. Many schools have problems with mice ball theft, and no doubt the school from which these Plusses came had over the years replaced them with 'standard' under-sized balls. Only the large and heavy one works well in the 'box' mouse with the D-type connector. Lesson 1: never discard a big mouse ball, even if the rest of the system is beyond redemption. Lesson 2: I need some new big mouse balls. Anyone know of mouse ball suppliers?
