I made a great fleamarket find yesterday and grabbed it (WHOA this sucker is HEAVY !!!!!) - a Performa 550, for a cool $20. Looked like it needed me, or vice versa, I guess! Brought it home, checked it out, everything works fine. With the exception of not having any caddys for the caddy-load CD-ROM (bummer, forgot that - anybody got some!?), it has 7.5.5, Excel, CLaris Filemaker Pro, Powerpoint, Word, 80 MB HD & 20 MB RAM. I am interested in what you can do to upgrade the 550. The first thing I want to do is get rid of the caddy-load 2x SCSI CD drive. To do this I would need a new lower front bezel which has the opening for the tray-load CD (don't want to hack the opening on this one), and the right model Apple CD drive. While opening the case and inspecting everything, I noticed the SCSI CD drive bus connectors are "upside-down", at the top of the drive, compared to a newer Apple tray-load 24x ATAPI drive I have from a beige G3. Thought I could use that but no go. What tray-load CD drive(s) fit the Performa 550? It has the grey adapter you plug into the back of the drive. I really like how easy it is to get into the machine - everything just unplugs/slides out, mobo, HD, CD, floppy you have to unplug cables, but really nice. Screen is nice and sharp, great color, no burn. This was owned by an healthcare company which retired the machine, looking at the files left behind on the HD. Also I would like to upgrade the mobo with the Sonnet Presto Plus or other mobo upgrade, change to a larger HD (how big can you go?) and max the memory. Curious to know if this mobo

I am particularly interested in having the Ethernet so I can hook to my DSL modem!! If it is I want to grab it if it's what I need. Anybody have any experience with this upgrade on their machine?
