Subject: Laser Printers and LocalTalk
From: "Matt Jordan" <[EMAIL PROTECTED]>

Hi all,

Which of the Apple LaserWriter printers are best for use with a LocalTalk
(PhoneNET) network containing both compact Macs and some PCI PowerMacs?
(Are there any of these that are worse/better than others?) What are your
general recommendations?

As for the compacts: Is there any difficulty in sharing a printer with a
network like this? Since they are running System 7.1 are there any
concerns I need to watch out for? Is the print spooling speed typically
good even with a slow CPU (16 MHz is still a drop in the bucket compared
to current CPUs ;))?

Thanks!

Matt

I have a 16/600 on my network. It hooks up via ethernet, LocalTalk, or (PC) serial and can do all of them at the same time. It's still supported by OSX if you move that way, and it's pretty fast. One drawback is the small 250-sheet tray, it seems like I have to reload it way too often. It will also do IP printing in case you have an ethernet router that doesn't do AppleTalk.
Once the job is sent to the printer, the computer is done with it - the printer's processor does the work of converting to Postscript.
