Yesterday I tried to replace the internal HD (the old 40MB drive is just a bit too small, so I've popped in an 8.4GB one). I know the new drive works, because I used to use it as an external.
Problem #1: The new drive is about half the height of the original one, and only two of the screw holes align with those on the chassis. Anyone know of any suitable materials for sitting under the drive to keep it secure, preferably without too much heat building up.
Problem #2: My SE/30 has a IIsi ROM SIMM. As such it won't boot into System 7.5.3 as installed on the new drive. It boots from a 7.1 install disk though, but then has trouble installing. It claims it can't install onto the partition containing 7.5.3, reports a _negative_ capacity on one of the partitions, and attempting to install on the remaining two results in the system hanging. Any suggestions?
I could sort things by taking out the drive and using it as an external (I've done this successfully before in combination with a 40MB internal). However, the sheer number of screws involved means I'd prefer not to have to do that!
Muchos gracias!
Paul
