Sometimes the subnet mask will default to 255.255.255.0. Since you
are using at least two more bits it should be at most 255.255.252.0
or FFFFFC00.

A lans subnet doesn't change. In other words if your other machines run 255.255.255.0 then thats what you use. The rest is nonsence.

The control panels for setting that are a pain in MacOS < 9. You
can try using "class B" which will give you 255.255.0.0.

Which wuld be as useful as tits on a bull if the rest of your lan is set to class C. As above, check the other macs subnet and use the same

By all means take the trouble to assign your own local IP
addresses. Keep a list on a computer somewhere and keep it current.

A redundant sentence as you can only have static a address using mactcp and the port of the mac doing the ICS must also be static.

Jake, heres my mactpc settings from a classic:

IP 192.168.1.6

Obtain Address Manually (Dynamically works here)

Gateway 192.168.1.1

IP Address:
Class C Address 192.168.1.6
Subnet 255.255.255.0
Bits 24 0 8
Net 12625921
subnet 0
Node 6 (this reflects the last # of your ip address)

DNS info
Domain appears to mean little. Neither of my two entries are current but it works just the same
IP Address 192.168.1.1 my linux box has a dns server, installed seperately from ICS, so worth looking at your documentation for OSX. From memory I used my isp's dns addresses when the server dual booted windows.

I have just tried to "obtain Address" using the server option, which is not an option for what we are trying to do. The difference between manual and dynamic is that under dynamic you gain a node setting option while you lose the ability to change the preset ip address which you have control of under manual. Easy to lock the settings this way once it works.

Good luck, I did say I never configured this the first time
