Let the discussions begin about the merits of using Ethernet over the
various compacts not otherwise equipped for it.

Is there any way to get internet access with compacts, besides SE PDS
and modem? Like, is there any way I can simulate a modem with another
computer connected to a LAN or get ethernet over serial port(I have
an AsanteTalk).

As to the merits of Ethernet over the compacts, I will leave that to wiser heads than mine. As to the actual question, yes, you can connect the compact to your router or cable modem, and then connect it to the internet. I have done this with System 7.5.3 on an SE, and have been able to surf the web using Mosaic. It is a little weird, since it can't handle the conventional DHCP, so you have to manually assign the compact an IP address, and hope you don't conflict with the router. But like I said, possible, and a little tricky.
