You can connect a compact mac with a simple serial cable using PPP to a
suitable machine that is connected to your network, this is how I connect
most of my compact macs to my network and Internet.  I use old recycled PCs
running Linux to do this, though I'm sure you get a PPP service running on
windows if you so wished.
