I've identified the problem with my Mac 512K: the disk drive was corrupting the data going to and from it. I managed to fix it by giving it the 800K drive from a Mac Plus.
But I really miss the 400K disk drive; the noises that come from it are music to my ears. It plays a little tune in E minor when it formats a disk, and I get all goose-pimply and nostalgic at the very thought of it. The 800K disk drive, on the other hand, just grunts. I would like to swap the existing 800K disk drive, which is in pristine condition, for an internal or external 400K drive from a Mac 128K or 512K. What you get out of it is a new lease of life for your Mac, with a good as new replacement for the only mechanical part in your machine. What I get out of it is my MacTunes! -- Compact Macs is sponsored by <http://lowendmac.com/>.
