This is illogical, there won't be any degradation if you are in the
digital domain.

There is a device like that, I saw that in the In Sync home page and some
professional audio magazine. Yes it does the job of recording the audio to
CD-R directly. But you have to be aware, that this real time operation
requires a specially designed hardware, and the device is not cheap.
In the regular PC world, I cannot find the software-hardware package which
can do that job.
You still have to do it off-line (record it first, then master it to the CD-R)

Nope, they do not have the proper hardware.
