for my devices, yes it is.  I have a nokia 6126 and a plantronics 655.  the 
plantronics has some noise reduction.  the mike is planted against my cheek, 
and the speaker is crammed in my ear.  

when it is on, neither the nokia speaker or mike are on.  

when using the nokia straight, I have trouble keeping the thing in the correct 
place to hear.  all outside noises are transmitted.

bluetooth is probably not superior to hard wire, but with active dogs in the 
car, hard wire can be a problem .

blue tooth is really great when driving on I95, trying to read a map, drink 
coffee, and take a message.
