I think it is the juxtaposition with "boy" that is the problem. "Water boy." OK. "Bat boy." OK "Stock boy." Less good, wants to be a "sales associate." "Fan boy" Not so good. "Soldier boy." Depends who's talking. Could lose some teeth.
