All you need is a Firewire 800 - to - Firewire 400 cable (available at
Apple stores and elsewhere) to use a Firewire 400 device with
your Firewire 800 port. I have no idea if it works the other way,
but I suspect it does.
To be specific the 15 inch MacBook Pro only has one Firewire 800 port.
You have to buy the 17 inch to get one Firewire 400 and one Firewire
800
port. This raises the question: Is there any way to make a Firewire
400 device/cable compatible with a Firewire 800 port?
