To the best of my knowledge, a DVI > HDMI cable will achieve the
exact same result at the output end that an HDMI > HDMI achieves. If
I am wrong on this, then please correct me
DVI and HDMI are the same for transmitting uncompressed digital video.
The difference is that DVI is video-only. HDMI also transmits audio.
Handy if your display has speakers, but not if you use external
speakers. DVI to HDMI cable is all you need for HDMI on a monitor.
