I would suspect that there is some corrupted file that is causing you grief, and that file is not being overwritten when you do a reinstall. Photoshop places a SLEW of files on your hard drive, in the system library and in your user library, and who knows where else. Does the install disc come with an uninstall option? I just do not remember. Perhaps that is how you removed those versions in the first place?
