Such may be possible as long as some combination of steering, brake, (accelerator) can do the job, but only within the stability limits of the vehicle. If a human, animal, vehicle moves in front of the vehicle too close to stop with brakes, the only option is to swerve, which may not be an option at all if the swerve is into something else.
