"Call for Papers"
For those of you interested in frames and gilded wood...
Here is a call for papers for an upcoming conference in Sydney, Australia for
those of you interested in frames and gilded wood:
AICCM, FRAME: Concept, History and Conservation, Symposium 2
Art Gallery of New South Wales, Sydney, Australia
April 3 - 5, 2019
The Australian Institute for the Conservation of Cultural Material (AICCM),
Gilded Objects Conservation Special Interest Group (GOCSIG) and Conservation
Framing Special Interest Group are planning the international symposium on
AICCM FRAME: Concept, History and Conservation, Symposium 2, which will be held
at the Art Gallery of New South Wales, Sydney, April 3-5, 2019.
The Frames Symposium 2019 intends to encompass broader concepts associated
with conservation of picture frames and gilded surfaces, as well as the history
of frames, development of their styles, design and technology, and conservation
framing. We would like to invite papers on varied issues associated with
gilded/ polychrome finishes on frames, their conservation problems, history,
technology, and research. We expect to attract a broad international audience
of conservators, conservation students, curators and historians, students of
the curatorial management courses, artists, designers and frame makers. We are
pleased to announce that two keynote speakers and international experts on
frames, George Bisacca, Metropolitan Museum of Art, New York, and Timothy
Newberry, London, UK, have already confirmed their attendance. They will be
accompanied by the renowned Australian experts in the field.
The organising committee now welcomes abstracts of 250 words for papers and
lightning talks. Paper presentations should be tailored to 20 minutes in
length. Presenters are encouraged to submit papers for publication in the AICCM
Bulletin. Lightning talks should be tailored to approximately 5 minutes in
length with an abstract for publishing in the symposium notes.
Please include: presentation title and author details (full name and
institutional affiliation) plus a brief author biography up to 50 words.
Applicants will be notified of the Committee decision by Friday 2 November 2018.
Please note, unfortunately the registration fee for presenters (apart from
keynote speakers) is not covered by the symposium budget and funding for this
will need to be arranged by the presenter.
Further information for registration, social events, accommodation and
transportation is forthcoming and will be published at the AICCM website
https://aiccm.org.au/
To submit your abstract, send it to Barbara Dabrowa, Senior Conservator-Frames
