Maybe you can boot in rescue mode, use pdisk to create 1 mb partition 
rename it as bootstrap set the type (what was the type?), and use 
mkofboot (was this correct name? Same than ybin, but creates the 
filesystem as well) to create the file system for it. Maybe then the 
isntaller finds it.
