I used to use RoadRunner with Linux (Now I just get access through the 
network)
and it did require DHCP, but it had it's own dhcp client and login 
script...
I dunno about @HOME tho.  Most cable modems do _not_ have static IPs.  
They may
stay the same for months at a time, but they could change.
