I did a custom> developemnt install and found that my keyboard (which has a
spacebar divided into 2 bars: one on left represents backspace and the left
represents spacebar) was configured incorrectly. the spacebar was configured
as a backspace adn the backspace was configured as a spacebar.
Work around...lol...reinstalled and chose "default" install since i also had
problems with ftp access.
